Both the State of Maine and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are auto-extending state driver licenses that would otherwise be invalid because they have expired, as the BMVs in Maine and elsewhere are closed due to COVID-19.
- Maine has an Executive Order that automatically extends expired state driver licenses until 30 days after the Governor lifts the State of Emergency. See https://www.maine.gov/governor/mills/sites/maine.gov.governor.mills/files/inline-files/EO%2018%20An%20Order%20Extending%20Compliance%20Dates%20Under%20Certain%20Motor%20Vehicle%20Laws.pdf).
- The TSA also says that any state’s driver’s licenses that expired as of March 1, 2020 will still be acceptable as identification for up to a year after the expiration date of the license (see https://www.tsa.gov/coronavirus).
